Sailors" Subject: BUCKNER, Horace and PURDY, Nancy of Hardin County, KY ------- I would like to find more information about Horace Buckner and Nancy Purdy of Hardin County, KY. The information I currently have is the following. Horace Buckner was born Jan 27, 1799 and died Sep 13, 1835. Horace was buried in the Buckner Farm Cemetery, located on the east side of South Wilson Avenue in Radcliff, KY. Nancy Purdy was born Sep 13, 1800 and died Sep 19, 1890. Nancy was buried in Lot 43 of the Elizabethtown, KY, City Cemetery. She was the spouse of Horace Buckner and never remarried apparently due to the provisions of Horace Buckner's will. Also buried in the Lot 43 were Josephine B. Stith nee Miller (1870-1945), B. Bart Stith (1871-1945), Byron A. Miller (Sep 15, 1831-Dec 21, 1894) her father, Ellen E. Buckner (Mar 13, 1932-May 10, 1891) Josephine's mother, I.T. Miller and Ida Miller his wife. Horace Buckner and Nancy Purdy were married on 10 Oct 1818. Nancy Purdy's parents were Edmund Purdy (f. John) and Sallie Smith (f. Presley) who gave consent. Witnesses included John Overall and James Grigsby. Josephine Stith died Nov 22, 1945 in Jefferson County, KY. Bart Stith died Sep 17, 1945 in Hardin County, KY. Question - was Ellen E. Buckner Horace and Nancy Buckner's issue? Evidence includes will of Josephine Stith proved in Elizabethtown, KY on 13 July, 1946. She had no direct descendants. So dependents of her parents siblings were inherited her estate. Her mother's siblings included Dr. Edmund P. Buckner, Loretta Buckner, Corine Buckner (Corrinor Buckner?), and Sarah E. Buckner (b. 19 Apr 1829 in Hardin County, KY) my Great-Great Grandmother. Are these also the issue of Horace and Nancy Buckner? All of the related persons buried in Lot 43 would indicate so. In the Kentucky ancestor charts from the Ancestral Trails Historical Society, Hardin, Co., KY, there is a pedigree chart for Corrine Carlton that includes Horace and Nancy Buckner as well as Corrinor Buckner. The chart shows Alletha Overall to be the daughter of Corrinor Buckner. Is she related to the John Overall, the witness in the marriage? The will shows Letha Overall to be the daughter of Corine Buckner. Are Alletha and Letha the same name? Are Corine and Corrinor the same name? There is an article about Nancy Buckner in the Winter 1989 issue of Ancestral News. It states that Nancy Buckner raised seven children after Horace died not five as Josephine's estate settlement would indicate. I have not been able to obtain a copy of it yet. If anyone has a subscription, could they look up the article and e-mail me the names of the seven children and a summary of the contents? One last question. What is the connection between the Buckners of Hardin Co. and Hart Co., KY? David B.
